Tech:NYC Statement Following the Veto of the Health Information Privacy Act

December 19, 2025

Tech:NYC issued the following statement following Governor Kathy Hochul’s veto of the Health Information Privacy Act.

Governor Hochul made the right call to veto a bill that would have gone far beyond its original and well-intended purpose of protecting New Yorkers’ sensitive health information. Instead, it would have increased costs and disrupted essential daily services that have little to do with what New Yorkers think of as healthcare.

We are committed to continuing to work alongside the Governor and the State Legislature to add New York to the ever-growing list of states that have established comprehensive data privacy protections and additional safeguards for sensitive health information — doing so in a manner that promotes consumer safety while also ensuring we don’t create unique burdens that harm our economy and raise costs for New Yorkers.
