Tech:NYC Statement on the 2026 State of the State Address
January 13, 2026
Tech:NYC issued the following statement in response to today’s 2026 State of the State address by Governor Kathy Hochul:
“By taking action where others have hesitated, Governor Hochul continues to show that New York is leading the nation in tech by balancing innovation with common-sense policy and protections. From AI transparency to digital citizenship to government modernization, the Governor is shaping a future in which New York remains the premier destination for tech.
The proposal to create the Office of Digital Innovation, Governance, Integrity, and Trust (DIGIT) is a forward-thinking move that provides the clear, consistent framework that both businesses and New Yorkers need. Furthermore, the Governor’s commitment to Empire AI and the new research center at SUNY Binghamton proves that New York isn't just reacting to the future; we are proactively building it.
We are particularly encouraged by the Governor’s focus on practical tech governance, which streamlines regulations and uses AI to make government procurement more efficient. This focus also extends to digital safety, protecting our children through ‘Safe by Design’ principles and empowering New Yorkers with more control over their personal data. In addition, we’re encouraged that the Governor is advancing the next phase of autonomous vehicle deployment to keep New York at the forefront of modern transit.
We commend Governor Hochul for her commitment to these issues. We look forward to another year of partnership where New York once again leads.”
