Tech:NYC’s Statement on Governor Hochul’s New AI Oversight Requirements Under the RAISE Act

Tech:NYC issued the following statement on Governor Hochul’s announcement of new AI oversight requirements under the RAISE Act and the appointment of Marc Gilman to help lead its implementation:

“AI is evolving at an exponential rate that surpasses any state border. We call on the federal government to establish a strong, consistent national standard of rules for the technology.

Until that happens, New York will continue to play an important role in AI regulation. We look forward to working with Governor Hochul, Marc Gilman, and the DIGIT office as they lead the critical work advancing safety and supporting responsible AI development.

AI is a part of our collective future, and New York’s emergence as North America’s largest tech talent market, surpassing the Bay Area, makes that clear. We need to realistically prepare for AI tools to become part of everyday life, not to mention the impact they will have on our economy and workforce. That means helping New Yorkers use them safely and effectively while ensuring they also support our state’s economic growth.”
